The Block Nutrition Challenge will use hydrostatic weighing (underwater immersion), which has become recognized as the “Gold Standard” for analyzing body composition including percent body fat. The “dunking” or immersion procedure is repeated three times for an average. Body density and body fat can then be estimated with the Archimedes’ principal using measurements from the weight of the body outside the water, the weight of the body completely immersed, and the density of the water itself. Since fat is less dense than water a person with more body fat will be lighter in water compared to a person with more lean muscle mass which is more dense than water.
Why should I get “dunked”?
- To establish an accurate baseline for your overall body composition and to better understand your daily caloric needs and basal metabolic rate (calories burned at rest).
- To determine a healthy body fat % for you as an athlete/ crossfitter.
- To track your progress over time- Retests will be done again after
- 12 weeks (end of July).
Sign-ups for hydrostatic weighing are next to the front desk! It will be done on April 30 only so make sure to reserve a time!
