Week #8
Alright Block CrossFit Nutrition challenge peeps! I hope you are feeling “on track” and ready to tackle the week! Your challenge this week is to get 7-8 hours of sleep as many nights as possible.
Each team member will earn one point for every night they get 7-8 hours of sleep. Keep track each night and at the end of the week the team captain can drop the team score card (attached below) in the nutrition challenge drop box or e-mail it to: blockcfnutritionchallenge@gmail.com
How much sleep do you need?
According to the National Sleep Foundation adults (18+ years) need 7-9 hours per night. There is “no magic number” because your sleep results from two different factors that researchers are learning about: a person’s basal sleep need – the amount of sleep our bodies need on a regular basis for optimal performance – and sleep debt, the accumulated sleep that is lost to poor sleep habits, sickness, awakenings due to environmental factors or other causes.
As I mentioned a few weeks ago in the e-mail from week #1 your sleep or lack of sleep can indirectly affect your food choices. As you also grow more tired your ability to make healthy food choices declines and your willpower to say no to poor food choices diminishes as well.
If you are not sleeping the recommended amount of 7-9 hours a night, maybe it’s time to MAKE SLEEP A PRIORITY. You may want to start off by slowly increasing the amount of sleep you get by going to bed 15 minutes earlier than you usually do and then add a few minutes week by week.
Keep up the GREAT WORK EVERYONE!!!
